Mundgod: On the occasion of Lhakar, the 26th Shoton celebration successfully concluded in Mundgod Doeguling Settlement. Drepung Tripa Geshe Kunchok Paksam Rinpoche was the chief guest and a huge audience joined the final day performance by TIPA. The portrait of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and a statue of Yogi Thangtong Gyalpo, the founder of Tibetan opera (Ache Lhamo), were installed on their respective places on the performance ground.

It was then followed by a closing address by TIPA’s director, Dhondup Tsering, for the successful conclusion of this year’s Shoton festival. The performance of tale of Gyalsa Belsa, started right after his remarks.

At the closing performance, around 3,000 people attended and cheered the performers by passing virtuous comment and making the event more festive by cheering in-between. The Chief guest, Drepung Tripa Geshe Kunchok Paksam Rinpoche, gave an invaluable speech on the importance Tibet’s rich culture, particularly Ache Lhamo tradition.

A vote of thanks was delivered by Tenzin Phuntsok, the Assistant Artistic Director by emphasising the hard work put by the Settlement Office, Regional Opera Associations members and other contributors for the successful conclusion of the two week event.
